Facts
National Facts:
SigEp is the nation's largest fraternity. For the last
fifteen years, more men have joined Sigma Phi Epsilon than any other college
fraternity.
SigEp was founded at Richmond College, now the University of Richmond,
on November 1, 1901 on the cardinal principles of Virtue, Diligence, and
Brotherly Love. Today, over 240,000 men have joined the fraternity and taken a
vow to uphold these values.
SigEp is supported by the Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation. The Foundation was founded to help
develop the scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and personal potential of
SigEp undergraduates. The Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation provided over
$900,000 to Sigma Phi Epsilon in program support and scholarships in 2001.
Local Facts:
SigEp won fraternity of the year the past 3 years in a row at WCU. We have the trophies proudly displayed in our chapter room. (see Photo Album)
SigEp was Greek Week champions in 2003.
SigEp is known as the "Gentleman's Fraternity"
Brothers falling below our minimum GPA requirement are put on an academic probation. They are then required to do manditory logged study hours, and submit grade reports to our VP of member development. Our standards are held high.
SigEp's philanthropy is the American Heart Assiciation. One major fundraising event that we do is called the "Toilet Sit" In which members of SigEp sit on a toilet in the academic quad for 72 hours straight. For this we won an award from the school for "Organizational Program of the Year"
SigEp members attend national and regional meetings with other SigEps from around the country, including new member camps, leadership academies, and other events to learn from other chapters, exchange ideas, grow as individuals and brothers, and have a great time in the process.
SigEp is the only fraternity on campus that does not have a pledge period and does not 'pledge' it's members. Hazing is strictly forbidden by all greek organizations. See the Balanced Man page for more info on our member development program.
SigEp is the only greek organization on campus that owns its own house. (all others rent from landlords)
